Our Experience

James Boon Architects is an architects practice experienced in conservation, adaptation and extensions to listed and historic buildings as well as new buildings in historic settings, for private residential and heritage sector clients. Our director James is a hands-on architect providing a personal service, who has experience of conservation but can design buildings which meet today’s needs and ensuring that the building can be of use in the future.

From initial client briefing and feasibility studies, through concept design and planning applications, to detailed design and delivery on site, for a variety of different clients such as private individuals and charitable trusts:

– Cromford Mills, AHF and NLHF funded Feasibility Study for Building 1

– Aqueduct Cottage, pro bono advice on restoration of Grade II Listed Cottage for Derbyshire Wildlife Trust

– St Wilfrids Church, working with former director James’ former practice Lathams on this NLHF funded reordering of Grade I Listed Church

– Framework Knitters Museum, NLHF funded reordering of Museum

– Wingfield Station, NLHF and HE funded scheme for DHBT to save Grade II* Listed Railway Station

– Bulwell Hall Stables, NLHF funded feasibility study for Nott’m Building Heritage Trust

– Sinai Park House, feasibility study to restore Grade II* Listed timber frame house, converting to B&B

– Sudbury Gasworks, NLHF funded scheme to repair and convert Grade II Listed former gasworks into a community centre.

Director James is also the Technical Advisor to the Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust and on the Board of Trustees for the Grade I Listed Sir John Moore School in Appleby Magna.
